Федерати́вная Респу́блика Герма́ния (Германия, или ФРГ) — государство в Центральной Европе, граничит с Данией, Польшей, Чехией, Австрией, Швейцарией, Францией, Люксембургом, Бельгией и Нидерландами. На севере её естественную границу образуют Северное и Балтийское моря. От Швеции Германию отделяет пролив в Балтийском море.

Берлин — столица и резиденция правительства; некоторые министерства расположены в Бонне. Форма правления — парламентская республика, форма государственного устройства — симметричная федерация. Государство разделено на 16 частично независимых федеральных земель. Германия является членом Европейского Союза, НАТО и «Большой восьмёрки», претендует на постоянное членство в Совете Безопасности ООН.

Germany, officially the Federal Republic of Germany (German: Bundesrepublik Deutschland), is a country in West-central Europe. It is bordered to the north by the North Sea, Denmark, and the Baltic Sea; to the east by Poland and the Czech Republic; to the south by Austria and Switzerland; and to the west by France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Germany is a parliamentary federal republic of sixteen states (Bundesländer). The capital city and seat of government is Berlin. As a nation-state, the country was unified near the end of the Franco-Prussian War in 1871. After World War II, Germany's government was re-formed, its territory was divided into two separate states along the lines of allied occupation in 1949 and then was reunified in 1990. Germany is a founding member of what is now the European Union, and with over 82 million people it has the largest population among the EU member states.

The Federal Republic of Germany is a modern great power, a member state of the United Nations, NATO, the G8, the G4 nations and, ranked fourth in military expenditure. Germany is the world's third largest economy by nominal GDP, the world's largest exporter of goods, and the world's second largest importer of goods. In 2007 it held the rotating presidencies of both the European Council and the G8 summits.

The land of poets and thinkers. Germany is often known as das Land der Dichter und Denker (the land of poets and thinkers). German culture began long before the rise of Germany as a nation-state and spanned the entire German speaking world.

German literature can be traced back to the Middle Ages, with the most notable authors of the period being Walther von der Vogelweide and Wolfram von Eschenbach. The Nibelungenlied, whose author remains unknown, is also an important work of the epoch, as is the Thidrekssaga. The fairy tales collections published by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm became famous throughout the world. Theologian Luther, who translated the Bible into German, is widely credited for having set the basis for modern "High German" language.

Among the most admired German poets and authors are Lessing, Goethe, Schiller, Kleist, Hoffmann, Brecht and Schmidt. Four 20th century authors have won the Nobel Prize in literature: Thomas Mann, Hermann Hesse, Heinrich Böll and Günter Grass.
